Proteins (amino acids) are used to build new cells, maintain tissue and to make new proteins within the body.  Protein is found in your hair, nails, muscles, bone and blood cells. To make all the proteins your body needs, your require 21 amino acids in total, 10 of these come from foods (the essential amino acids) while the other 11 can be manufactured yourself from fats, carbohydrates and other amino acids (nonessential amino acids). Protein is eventually converted into glucose for energy but takes much longer than carbohydrates. The best food sources of protein are eggs, bee, soya beans, lentils and nuts. Too much protein however can cause a strain on the kidneys and increase calcium loses from your bones.
